Short bio

Claudio Ferraz is Associate Professor of Economics at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and research affiliate of JPAL and BREAD. His areas of research are development economics, political economy and public economics. In particular, his research focuses on governance and accountability in developing countries and its consequences for politics and public service delivery. His ongoing projects examine how voters react to information campaigns; whether pay-for-performance improve the quality of education; whether increases in the quality of politicians affect public policies; the consequences of natural resource booms, and the impacts of policies that aimed at reducing violence in urban areas. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as the American Economic Review, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Public Economics.
