Short bio
Oscar Landerretche is the Director of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Chile. He is also an academic of the Departement of Economics of the University of Chile, professor of economics at the INFOCAP Union Leadership School and director of the Economics Workshop for Young Socialists (TEJOS) at the Instituto Igualdad thinktank.
His undergraduate studies were in Economics at the University of Chile. He holds a PhD in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT.
He teaches and researches in the areas of macroeconomics, labor economics and political economy. He was the founding director of the Master of Public Policy at the University of Chile (2004-2010). Additionally he was the Chilean partner of Global Source Partners of New York for five years (2006-2011). He began his career working as an economist at the Central Bank of Chile as an economic analyst and has been a member of several advisory committees of the Ministry of Finance.
He was chief economist during the primary phase of the 2006 presidential campaign Bachelet in 2005, and the Frei 2010 presidential campaign in 2009. He was also Executive Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Council on Jobs and Equity during 2007-2008.
He is a well known columnist in Chile and is currently syndicated as an editorial columnist in the newspaper La Tercera. |
